Treasurer, Mayor, Community Leaders Link Pension to Economy

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – General Treasurer Gina M. Raimondo and Warwick Mayor Scott Avedisian will meet with business and community leaders on Thursday, September 8 to discuss the economic need to achieve comprehensive pension reform.

“For our economy to thrive, we must fix the fundamentals,” Raimondo said. “Until we do Rhode Island will be less attractive for businesses to relocate or expand here, for initiatives like the station district to thrive. We can’t invest in the future if so much of our budget, goes towards problems that have been decades in the making and will take time to correct.”

“Achieving pension reform will not only provide local budget relief to Warwick and other cities, but it will make us a more attractive place for growth and development,” Avedisian said. “Our pension debt is an anchor dragging us down, preventing our state, businesses, and communities from moving forward.”
