RICHARD BENJAMIN E-POSTCARDS NOW AVAILABLE AT RI.GOV

Send a beautiful electronic postcard directly from your eGovernment source, RI.gov Providence, Rhode Island (April #, 2002) - To the delight of Rhode Islanders and visitors alike, Richard Benjamin photos are now available in the form of electronic postcards at RI.gov, the portal to Rhode Island government information and services.

Nearly fifty of Richard Benjamin's most famous and historic photographic images of Rhode Island can be found at http://www.RI.gov. Peruse the selections and find famous destinations such as Sailing by Rose Island and Newport Bridge and Point Judith Light; or historical dwellings such as The Windmill on Jamestown and The Restored Irons House in Johnston.

RI.gov also features Micheal Melford photographic images from the Providence Tourism Council collection.

"I'm delighted to make my photographs available from RI.gov. The e-postcard service is a great way to promote the state of Rhode Island, and using beautiful images of Rhode Island makes the service all the more valuable," says Richard Benjamin.

One needn't be an Internet expert to send an e-postcard from RI.gov. Simply select from the many Rhode Island images available at RI.gov, complete the address field, write a message, and click the send button. Colleagues, family and friends will enjoy receiving these beautiful and personal messages.

"We have Rhode Islanders in the forefront of our minds as we plan these unique services. We want eGovernment interactions to be not only more convenient and accessible, but also more enjoyable," states Carrie Gott, General Manager of RI.gov.

In addition to e-postcards, RI.gov provides other helpful services to its citizenry, including personalization and event reminders.

Through a unique login, users can set favorite links, select colors, and even create a unique greeting. What's more, the reminder feature allows users to create a calendar of personal and governmental events and tasks, and choose to have an email and/or browser reminder sent the day of, week of or month of each event. In this way, RI.gov does the work of remembering these events, and reminding the user when to renew their vehicle registration, pay taxes, or even send a birthday card to Mom..

Howard Boksenbaum, acting Chief Information Officer for the state of Rhode Island, explains, "Making government accessible, interactive, and helpful is our goal. If we can change the ways in which Rhode Islanders interact with their government, and specifically ensure that the interaction is a positive one, then we've met our eGov goals."
