RIDOT Wins Two Awards for Wickford Junction Train Station Project

The Rhode Island Department of Transportation (RIDOT) today received two Construction Management Association of America (CMAA) New England Chapter awards for its work on the Wickford Junction Train Station and Garage. Awards were given out this afternoon at in Boston at the 18th Annual Project Achievement Award Luncheon.

The Wickford Junction Train Station project received the 2012 Infrastructure Project of the Year Award for projects less than $30 million. The project created a multi-modal facility in North Kingstown that includes a single-side commuter rail platform on a new siding track, an 1,100 car parking garage, a drop-off and pick-up area for cars and buses, bicycle parking, new access roads, storm water management facilities, new utility services, lighting and landscaping.

"This public-private partnership was a successful venture because of the true team approach that was taken," said Governor Lincoln Chafee. "Working together every step of the way, RIDOT and the developer created a project of which all Rhode Islanders can be proud."

The CMAA also selected RIDOT's Administrator, Highway and Bridge Construction Operations, James L. Eng as its 2012 Person of the Year. Eng was selected in recognition of his leadership in creating the RIDOT Design Build Program, years of community service on the Braintree Conservation Commission and Planning Board, and continued involvement with organizations within the construction profession.

"The Wickford Junction Train Station is not just an important commuter rail link for our state; it is an important construction project for our Department," said RIDOT Director Michael P. Lewis. "These two awards are a testament to all of the men and women who put in the time and effort to make this an outstanding transportation project."
