Severe Thunderstorm Watch Until 9 p.m.

The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a severe thunderstorm watch until 9 p.m. for the entire state.

Thunderstorms are expected to develop after 2 p.m. and increase in number throughout the afternoon and into the evening. The areas at greatest risk for severe weather includes Massachusetts (along and south of the Massachusetts Turnpike), Connecticut, and Rhode Island.

Storms are predicted to produce heavy rain (two to three inches) in a short period of time. This may cause flash flooding and have an impact on the evening commute.

In addition, there is a strong possibility of damaging winds and large hail.

Rhode Islanders may want to move any unsecured outside toys or furniture to an indoor location. Drivers should reduce speed and drive cautiously on wet roads and in flooded areas.
