DEM ANNOUNCES ANNUAL GOVERNOR'S BAY DAY SET FOR SUNDAY, JULY 29

Next RI Great Outdoors Pursuit Event to be Held at Goddard Park on Bay Day

PROVIDENCE - The Department of Environmental Management announces that the annual Governor's Bay Day celebration is scheduled for Sunday, July 29. Free parking will be available at all Rhode Island state beaches and family-friendly activities will be offered at Goddard Memorial State Park, Roger Wheeler State Beach, Scarborough State Beach, and India Point Park.

Highlights of the Bay Day festivities include the annual complimentary Neighborhood Barbeque, Great Outdoors Pursuit activities and a day of free saltwater fishing for anglers, as allowed through a provision in the new licensing legislation. Music will fill the air with beach-side performances by Vini Ames & Sh-bop, Kicking Hole Band, Lite Rock 105, WPRO-AM and Kingdom.

DEM will host the 4th event of the 2012 Rhode Island Great Outdoors Pursuit on Sunday, July 29 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. in conjunction with Governor's Bay Day at Goddard Memorial State Park in Warwick. The Pursuit event is open to the public and will feature a host of free activities. There is no cost to register and all activities are either free or low-cost. The Rhode Island Great Outdoors Pursuit, co-sponsored by DEM and the Rhode Island Department of Health, seeks to connect families with outdoor public spaces and inspire active outdoor lifestyles while educating them about environmental and health issues. Teams receive points for participating in each event and will be eligible for prizes of outdoor equipment donated by local retailers and sponsors that will be awarded at the Pursuit finale on August 18.
