Colonel Steven G. O'Donnell, Superintendent of the Rhode Island State Police, announces that on Thursday, August 30, 2012 at 1:50 a.m. Trooper Lawens Fevrier was working a Rhode Island Department of Transportation construction detail on the access road to Route 146 north in the Town of Lincoln when his marked State Police cruiser was struck on the front passenger side by a red Ford Mustang bearing a Massachusetts registration.
The driver, Seth Cahoon, age 31, of 54 Edgewood Avenue, Cumberland, Rhode Island consented to a breathalyzer test, which resulted in blood-alcohol readings of .262 and .242, more than three times over the legal limit. The subject was arrested and charged with Driving Under the Influence of Intoxicating Liquor or Drugs First Offense/.15 or Greater. He was also summonsed for a laned roadway violation, no seatbelt, and obedience to devices. Trooper Fevrier was not injured in the crash.
Mr. Cahoon was transported to the Lincoln Woods Barracks and held overnight pending arraignment in Sixth Division District Court in the morning.
Colonel O'Donnell stated, "This is the third time in a month that Troopers, while performing their duties, have been struck, and luckily not injured, by suspected intoxicated operators. We will continue to prioritize our efforts to locate, apprehend, and hold accountable those who place our loved ones in harm's way!"
