Chafee, Reed, Whitehouse to Celebrate Completion of Two RIDOT Projects in East Providence

On Friday, November 30, 2012, Governor Lincoln Chafee will be joined by Senator Jack Reed and Senator Sheldon Whitehouse as they celebrate the completion of two Rhode Island Department of Transportation (RIDOT) projects, Waterfront Drive and Ten Mile River Bridges. Also anticipated to attend the events are East Providence Mayor Bruce Rogers and other State, Federal and local dignitaries.

The Waterfront Drive ceremony will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Waterfront Drive, off of Warren Avenue, in East Providence.

The Ten Mile River Bridges event will be held at 2 p.m. at Freedom Green Park, at the intersection of Centre Street and North Broadway, in East Providence.

RIDOT recently built 1.1 miles of new roadway on Waterfront Drive from Warren Avenue to Dexter Road. This new roadway has provided direct access to 285 acres of undeveloped and underdeveloped industrially zoned land. In addition, Waterfront Drive will support future business growth in the area, while also relieving the surrounding neighborhoods of unnecessary truck traffic.

The Ten Mile River Bridges, which carry North Broadway over the Ten Mile River and another small stream, were originally closed in December 2011 due to structural deterioration. RIDOT recently replaced the bridges and reopened them one year early on Friday, November 16.
