Colonel Steven G. O'Donnell, Superintendent of the Rhode State Police and Commissioner of the Department of the Public Safety, announces that on December 7, 2012, members of the Rhode Island State Police Violent Fugitive Task and United States Marshals' Office arrested Dioairo Mercado, age 35, of 25 Barden Street, Providence, Rhode Island for violation of parole. The Rhode Island Parole Board issued a warrant for arrest on November 17, 2012 as Mr. Mercado had failed to comply with the terms and conditions of his parole status.

Mr. Mercado was release on parole from the Adult Correctional Institution on June 16, 2010, after serving five years and three months of an eight-year prison sentence. This sentence was imposed when Mr. Mercado pled to manslaughter after initially being indicted for the murder of Fernando Sanchez that occurred on August 27, 2004.

Mr. Mercado was arrested without incident at his residence and turned over to officials at the Adult Correctional Institution Intake Service Center.

The Rhode Island State Police Violent Fugitive Task Force is comprised of members of the Rhode Island State Police, United States Marshal's Office and the Providence Police Department.
