Raimondo Joins Thirty Percent Coalition

Coalition aims to increase gender diversity on public company boards

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - General Treasurer Gina M. Raimondo today announced her support for the Thirty Percent Coalition, a group of industry leaders working to secure at least 30 percent female representation on public company boards by the end of 2015.

"Achieving gender equality in the boardroom is long overdue as it has been shown to promote better decision-making," Raimondo said. "It will also ultimately improve our local and national economies and improve returns for our pension funds."

In the coming months, the State Investment Commission will be exploring how best to advocate for gender equality on public boards, as it develops its corporate governance policy. In developing this policy, the Commission will balance its fiduciary responsibility to maximize investment returns with the need to hold corporations accountable.

Members of the Thirty Percent Coalition include state treasurers, corporate leaders, labor unions, institutional investors, national women's organizations, corporate governance experts and board members.
