Governor Lincoln D. Chafee Announces Michael Grande as 11th Nominee for Rhode Island Board of Education

Providence, RI - Governor Lincoln D. Chafee today announced Michael A. Grande as the eleventh and final nominee for the Rhode Island Board of Education. Previously announced this week were Eva-Marie Mancuso (Chairwoman nominee); Joan C. Abrams; Antonio Barajas, MD; Michael H. Bernstein; Colleen A. Callahan; Karin L. Forbes; Patrick A. Guida; William C. Maaia, Esq.; Lawrence Purtill; and Mathies J. Santos.

"Michael Grande, a graduate of Warwick public schools, has been extensively involved with institutions of higher education in Rhode Island, as well as community organizations supporting young people, such as the YMCA and the Boy Scouts," Governor Chafee said. "In addition to his accounting practice, Michael also currently teaches at both Providence College and the Community College of Rhode Island. His willingness to serve on the Board of Education is another example of his commitment to our state and its young people. Additionally, in these difficult economic times, Michael's financial background and his knowledge of fiscal matters will bring a valuable perspective and expertise to the Board."

Grande is the sole proprietor of his accounting practice, where he provides tax and accounting services to small businesses and individuals. He also serves as an Adjunct Professor in Accounting at Providence College, teaching courses in Financial and Managerial Accounting, as well as at the Community College of Rhode Island. Grande previously served as an Adjunct Professor at Bryant University and Johnson and Wales University.

Grande earned a B.A., magna cum laude, from Providence College and a Master of Science in Taxation from Bryant University.

Active in the community, Grande is the Vice President of the Narragansett Council of Boy Scouts; serves on the Audit and Finances Committees of Care New England; is past Chairman of the Warwick Station Redevelopment Agency; past member of the Board of Trustees of Kent County Memorial Hospital; past member of the Warwick Rotary Club; past member of the Greater Providence YMCA; past member of the Board of Directors and Assistant Treasurer of the Kent County YMCA Board of Management; past member of the Central Rhode Island Chamber of Commerce; past Chairman of the Warwick Figure Skaters, Inc.; past President and Treasurer of the Shawomet District Boy Scouts; and past Vice Chair and Assistance Scoutmaster of the District Committee Boy Scouts, Troop 7, Buttonwoods. He is a member of the American Institute of CPAs and the Rhode Island Society of CPAs.
