Real-Time Travel Information Coming to Route 114

The Rhode Island Department of Transportation (RIDOT) will soon expand its real-time travel information to include Route 114. Effective, Wednesday, February 13, 2013, motorists traveling on Route 114 North in East Providence will now be able to view travel time estimates to I-95 and T.F. Green Airport via the Department's existing electronic message board on Route 114 North at Mink Street.

"We're pleased to expand our toolbox of travel planning services by expanding the real-time travel information for East Bay commuters heading into the City of Providence and beyond," said RIDOT Director Michael P. Lewis.

Travel times are currently displayed on fixed overhead and portable roadside electronic message signs on I-95, I-195, and Route 146 from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Friday. This information complements other travel planning services RIDOT has for motorists including 511, the Highway Advisory Radio (1630 AM) and live traffic cameras. RIDOT also has real-time travel estimates and a travel time survey on its website at www.tmc.dot.ri.gov/traveltimes/.

The travel times for this added location are calculated using GPS streaming data from mobile sources such as cell phones, GPS units, and transponders. This aids the Department in providing travel times and congestion hot spots.

Those with questions can contact RIDOT's Customer Service office at 401-222-2450 weekdays from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Additional information may be available on RIDOT's social media sites on Twitter, and Facebook.
