Rhode Island State Police Arrests Suspect for DUI with a BAC of .171 and .173

Colonel Steven G. O'Donnell, Superintendent of the Rhode Island State Police and Commissioner of Public Safety, announces that at 1:41 a.m., on February 13, 2013, members of the Scituate Barracks received a 911 telephone call concerning a possible intoxicated operator that was operating the wrong way on Route 295 South in the Town of Cumberland. Troopers responded to the area and located the vehicle stuck in a snow bank in the center median on Route 295 South at Exit 10. Further investigation revealed that the operator appeared highly impaired.

The operator is identified as Samantha Medeiros, age 26, of 10 St. Mary's Street West Warwick, R.I. Ms. Medeiros was arrested and transported to State Police Headquarters and charged with the following:

• Driving Under the Influence of Liquor and or Drugs: (BAC: first reading .171% / second reading .173%) • Laned roadway violation (Rhode Island Traffic Tribunal) • One way highway-driving wrong way (Rhode Island Traffic Tribunal)

Ms. Medeiros was held overnight pending a morning arraignment.

As always, The Rhode Island State Police will continue to aggressively enforce the motor vehicle laws with increased emphasis on speeding, driving while impaired, aggressive driving, texting violations, seatbelt, and child restraint violations.
