RIDOT to restrict travel lanes on Jefferson Boulevard for bridge work

The Rhode Island Department of Transportation (RIDOT) announced it will be restricting travel in both directions on Jefferson Boulevard in Warwick at the Route 37 overpass from four lanes to two lanes starting today, Monday, March 25, 2013, at approximately noontime.

The lane closures will be in place until this fall, and are necessary to allow for reconstruction of the bridge that carries Route 37 East over Jefferson Boulevard. The 47-year-old structurally deficient bridge will remain open throughout the project; however, lane closures on Route 37 will be needed later in the year when the contractor repairs the bridge's joints.

Through a $1.3 million contact with Cardi Corporation, RIDOT will rebuild both piers and make other numerous improvements.

Motorists with questions can contact RIDOT's Customer Service office at 401-222-2450 weekdays from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Additional information can be found on RIDOT's social media sites Twitter and Facebook.
