Traffic Advisory: Roadwork Gets Underway on Route 216 (Hopkinton) Next Week; Delays Expected

The Rhode Island Department of Transportation (RIDOT) today announced that next week it will begin a road reconstruction project on Route 216 (Ashaway Road) in Hopkinton. Traffic delays are expected. Motorists are advised to plan for additional travel time on Route 216 and on Route 3 and to consider alternate routes during construction.

WHAT: RIDOT will reconstruct a 2.3-mile section of Route 216 from Route 3 (Main Street) to Route 91 (Alton Bradford Road). Sections of Route 216 will be reduced to one lane, with a single-lane alternating traffic pattern. Motorists also can expect a gravel driving surface on Route 216. Two-way traffic will be maintained on nights, weekends and holidays. The traffic pattern will be utilized for approximately five weeks, and the project is expected to conclude in late August.

WHEN: Effective Wednesday, May 29, 2013. Work hours are 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., Monday-Saturday. On Route 216 where it intersects with Route 3, work hours will be Monday-Friday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.
