HAZARD MITIGATION GRANT PROGRAM

SUBJECT: Hurricane Sandy – Post Disaster Mitigation Grant

The Rhode Island Emergency Management Agency (RIEMA) is pleased to announce the availability of Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Hazard Mitigation Grant Program (HMGP) funding. This post-disaster mitigation grant is available as a result of the federal disaster declaration for Hurricane Sandy, which occurred on November 3, 2012. The application period is now open and Letters of Intent are due to RIEMA by October 25, 2013.

Federally-funded hazard mitigation grant programs provide significant opportunities to reduce, minimize, or eliminate potential damages to public and private infrastructure from natural hazard events. Funding for hazard mitigation plans and projects can reduce overall risks to the population and structures, while reducing the reliance on taxpayer-funded federal disaster assistance for disaster recovery.

All questions and additional inquiries for information regarding the Hazard Mitigation Grant Program can be directed to Jess Stimson, Acting State Hazard Mitigation Officer, at jessica.r.stimson.nfg@mail.mil or phone (401) 462-7115.
