RIEMA Trinity X Hazardous Materials / Decontamination Exercise

SUBJECT: RIEMA Functional Exercise

The Rhode Island Emergency Management Agency will be hosting the Trinity X Rhode Island State Special Teams Hazardous Materials and Decontamination Exercise on Friday, October 25th, 2013 at the RI State Fire Academy (4 Green Lane, Exeter, RI 02822) from 9am – 8pm. Time allotted for media access is scheduled from 1pm – 5pm.

This functional exercise will demonstrate the State's ability to prevent, respond and mitigate a Hazardous Material incident and Decontamination procedures. The exercise will encompass three incidents: 1) Rail car leak, 2) Clandestine methamphetamine drug lab, and 3) White powder event. These separate venues will allow first responders to assess plans and capabilities of initial response teams; test interoperability of communications between teams and command/control elements; ensure responder life safety; assess local alert procedures; examine team response plans focusing on scene security, public protection and test team ability to correctly identify and address specific Chemical, Biological, Radioactive, Nuclear and Explosive (CBRNE) hazards; initiate command/control with multi-agency operations at multiple CBRNE incidents.
