Governor Chafee Announces Launch of the Office of Management and Budget's Website

Online resource highlights work of the Office; provides quick access to reports, data; transparent management of taxpayer dollars

Governor Lincoln D. Chafee announced today the launch of the Office of Management and Budget's new website www.omb.ri.gov.

"The Office of Management and Budget is the clearinghouse for credible, accurate, unbiased financial information and management assistance for state agencies. With the launch of the website, it will be easier for the public to review reports and data on improved efficiencies and management activities in our agencies. Throughout my administration, we have taken major steps to improve accountability and transparency in government," Governor Lincoln D. Chafee said. "I also want to give a special note of gratitude to the state's Chief Digital Officer Thom Guertin for his expertise and leadership."

Authorized under Rhode Island General Law 35-1.1, the Office of Management and Budget (OMB), which resides in the Department of Administration, is responsible for managing budgetary functions and providing fiscal analysis and analytical research to the public, the Governor, the General Assembly, and state agencies. The Office provides the necessary strategic planning and management support to make government more efficient and affordable for Rhode Island taxpayers. The OMB is comprised of the Budget Office and the Offices of Strategic Management, Grant Management, Performance Management, and Regulatory Reform.

"The Office of Management and Budget was created in 2012 as a result of Governor Chafee's vision," Director of Administration Richard Licht said. "We have seen significant progress in management, performance tracking, regulatory review, and efficiency efforts thanks to the leadership of Governor Chafee and OMB Director Peter Marino. This administration has a strong commitment to using technology to better serve the people of Rhode Island, so I want to thank the talented staff within OMB, as well as the Office of Digital Excellence and Division of Information Technology, for their work in launching the OMB website." "It is our goal to be careful stewards of taxpayer dollars and to be the trusted, knowledgeable source for financial, regulatory, strategic, and management assistance in Rhode Island," said Peter Marino, Director of OMB. "The OMB website provides a single access point to resources for the public on the annual state budget process, information about federal grants, improvements being made in our state agencies, and updates on activities to improve Rhode Island's business and regulatory climate."
