State Arts Council Announces New Art Show at Block Island Airport Gallery

The Rhode Island State Council on the Arts (RISCA) announced today that a new art exhibition of works by Linnea Toney Leeming will be held from April 7, 2014 through July 7, 2014 at the Block Island Airport Gallery. The Block Island Airport Gallery presents the work of contemporary Rhode Island artists in quarterly exhibitions.

Linnea Toney Leeming is a painter of large, colorful abstract canvases. She uses the abstract expressionist's process-driven approach to painting, and lets the compositions evolve of their own accord without advance planning. She seeks to create a sense of space and time within her compositions, each piece becoming a world unto itself. Her painting technique is experimental, richly layered and features a vibrant, energetic palette. Her upcoming exhibit will show small studies along with several larger, finished compositions.

Ms. Leeming received a BFA from the University of Rhode Island and has studied additionally at the Rhode Island School of Design and the Boston Museum School under such notable teachers as Lenny Long, Victor Lara and Katherine Porter. Born to a family of artists, she has been a practicing artist for 40 years, while additionally working in such creative fields as photography, teaching and advertising. She has received numerous awards over the years, including two Vermont Studio Center fellowships. Ms. Leeming is a long-time resident of Smithfield, Rhode Island.

Exhibitors for the Block Island Airport gallery were selected by a panel of artists and community members. Panelists were Marilyn Bogdanfy, Jon Campbell, Peruko Ccopacatty and Christine Grele. Other exhibitors selected for the 2014 cycle are Barbara L. Green, Sean and Leslie Hartnett, and Robert Lavoie.
