Traffic Advisory: New Traffic Pattern to Begin This Weekend on Wickenden and South Water Streets in Providence

Beginning this weekend, a new traffic pattern will be in effect on Wickenden Street, from Benefit Street to the Point Street Bridge, in Providence. Those traveling west on Wickenden Street will be restricted from turning left onto South Water Street to access I-195. To access I-195, motorists will turn right onto South Main Street; left onto James Street; and a left onto South Water Street before reaching the on-ramp to I-195 East. A map is available at http://www.dot.ri.gov/travel/index.php. This traffic pattern is expected to take effect this Saturday, July 19 and will be a permanent change.

During this phase of Iway construction, crews will reconstruct the other halves of South Main, South Water and Wickenden Streets. They will also install new curbing and sidewalks and upgrade the traffic signals. These modifications will continue to improve the safety and rideability in this area.

Additional information will be posted to the department's Facebook (www.facebook.com/RIDOTNews) and Twitter (www.twitter.com/RIDOTNews) pages. For more on the Iway and other construction projects, contact customerservice@dot.ri.gov to join our weekly community update email list.
