Traffic Advisory: Traffic Detour on Point Street Westbound in Providence Starts Monday

Motorists traveling westbound on Point Street, between the Point Street Bridge and Eddy Street, will be required to follow a detour beginning Monday, July 28. A signed detour will be in place using South Main Street to College Street to cross the Providence River. Next, follow Memorial Boulevard to Dyer Street and Eddy Street to return to Point Street at Davol Square. A map is available at www.dot.ri.gov/detourmaps.

The detour, with further options available below, is scheduled to be in effect for one week.

• Traffic leaving the Wickenden Street area headed for I-95 may follow the detour or consider an alternate route using Wickenden Street eastbound to Gano Street and the on-ramp to I-195 West.

• Motorists on I-195 West trying to reach Point Street via Exit 2 (South Main Street) should remain on the highway and use Exit 1A to Point Street.

• Those heading south on South Water Street will need to turn left on Wickenden Street and head back north on South Main Street and follow the detour.

• Those seeking access to the Davol Square complex should use South Street off of Eddy Street.

Point Street area improvements, a component of the Iway City Streets Project, are slated for completion this Fall. The sidewalk closure on the north side of Point Street is anticipated to remain in place.

Additional information will be posted to the department's Facebook (www.facebook.com/RIDOTNews) and Twitter (www.twitter.com/RIDOTNews) pages. For more on the Iway and other construction projects, contact customerservice@dot.ri.gov to join our weekly community update email list.
