Voters in Central Falls will participate in a citywide election this Thursday, February 19, and Secretary of State Nellie M. Gorbea urges all eligible voters to get out and vote.
Voters across the city will have the opportunity to choose between two candidates vying for the position of City Council â€" At Large: Carlene Patricia Fonseca and Angelo Garcia. In the city's fifth ward, voters will chose between two candidates: Thomas Lazieh and Kenneth A. Vaudreuil.
"Special elections are historically low turnout elections. I encourage all Central Falls voters to express your pride as a 'comeback city' by voting," said Gorbea. "Your vote really does matter."
The city will open eight polling places for this election:
• Calcutt Middle School, 112 Washington Street • Robertson Elementary School, 12 Kendall Street • Central Falls High School, 24 Summer Street • Veterans Memorial Elementary School, 150 Fuller Avenue • Captain Hunt School, 12 Kendall Street • Madeirense Club, 46 Madeira Avenue • Ella Risk Elementary School, 949 Dexter Street • Knights of Columbus Hall, 20 Claremont Street.
Polls will open at 7 a.m. and will close at 8 p.m. Any eligible voter in line when the doors close at 8 p.m. will be allowed to cast a ballot. If you are not sure where to vote or would like to see a sample ballot, visit the Voter Information Center online at sos.ri.gov/vic or call the Central Falls Board of Canvassers at (401) 727-7450.
Voters will be asked to show one of the following photo IDs at the polls: RI driver's license, RI state or federal government-issued ID card, US passport, ID card issued by an educational institution in the US, US military ID card or RI Voter ID card.
Voters who do not bring an acceptable photo ID to the polls can vote using a standard Provisional Ballot. If the signature they give at their polling place matches the signature on their voter registration, their ballot will be counted. Secretary of State Gorbea is committed to making elections fair, fast and accurate in Rhode Island.
