Senator Reed, Congressman Langevin, Treasurer Magaziner Present 2015 Clean Energy Future Awards at Rhode Island Home Show Energy Expo

PROVIDENCE – Senator Jack Reed, Congressman James Langevin, General Treasurer Seth Magaziner and other state leaders today presented the 2015 Clean Energy Future Awards at the Rhode Island Convention Center. The ceremony, hosted by the Rhode Island Office of Energy Resources, was held as part of the Rhode Island Home Show Energy Expo and acknowledged six extraordinary Rhode Island clean energy leaders from municipalities, schools, non-profits, and private businesses.

Awardees included Providence-based Utilidata for its leadership in clean energy innovation, the City of East Providence for its leadership in municipal renewable energy projects, the Chariho School District Green Squads for their leadership in student led energy conservation, Newport-based Church Community Housing Corporation for its leadership in energy, environment, and affordable housing, West Warwick-based Arpin Group, Inc., for its leadership in sustainable energy practices, and Newport's Bob Morton, Owner of Newport Biodiesel, for his leadership in sustainable transportation.

"It is exciting to see the Energy Expo return to the Rhode Island Home Show for the second consecutive year," Governor Raimondo said. "This four day event brings practical and affordable energy saving solutions to Rhode Island families and businesses and reminds us that we must continue investing in energy efficient programs to maintain our reputation as a national leader in efficiency and renewables. While our state and region may face challenges, the individuals, businesses and municipalities being honored demonstrate the many innovative ways we can save money, invest in our economy and put people to work."

"Today we honor innovative Rhode Island businesses and individuals who have helped us take important strides in the march towards a clean energy future. As we continue to address pressing issues like climate change and high energy costs, we are reminded that some of the greatest ideas to advance energy conservation and sustainability are being developed right here at home. I salute this year's honorees for their contributions and commitment to finding smarter energy solutions," said U.S. Senator Jack Reed.

"Fighting climate change takes a concerted effort at all levels, and our environmental protection strategy must include homeowners, municipalities and businesses. Renewable and clean energy technologies continue to improve, and the Energy Expo at the Rhode Island Home Show showcases what we can accomplish together when conservation and sustainability are priorities," said Congressman Jim Langevin, who serves as Energy Task Force Chair on the House Sustainable Energy and Environment Coalition (SEEC). "Congratulations to all of the Clean Energy Future Award winners, and thank you for your commitment to our environment."

"Energy efficiency and renewables are important for our economy and our environment, and Rhode Islanders continue to demonstrate national leadership in these fields," remarked Rhode Island General Treasurer Seth Magaziner. "I am very proud of today's awardees for their commitment to advancing these incredibly important issues, and I look forward to a continued partnership with all of today's Home Show Energy Expo awardees and participants."

"It is really a pleasure to recognize Church Community Housing Corporation of Newport, which remains dedicated to helping low- and moderate-income persons in Newport Country live in safe, decent, affordable and energy-efficient housing and neighborhoods. The organization has been an invaluable community partner for 45 years and has developed more than 900 homes and rehabilitated another 1,500. Coupled with that achievement is the organization's deep commitment to building clean, energy efficient housing using ecologically conscious building materials and innovative technology. Church's collaborative partnership with Sandywoods Farm, Tiverton, where the wind turbine produces 50 percent of the electricity consumed by 50 apartments, is one example of that commitment. I'm proud of the work of Church Community Housing, which is very deserving of this award," said Senator Louis DiPalma.

"Congratulations to the Rhode Island clean energy leaders acknowledged today at the Energy Expo," said Stefan Pryor, Rhode Island Secretary of Commerce. "As a state we must continue to expand the renewable and clean energy sectors and lower the energy costs for businesses, schools, non-profits and municipalities. Growth in these sectors can generate both jobs and economic activity."

"The 2015 Clean Energy Future Awards recognize individuals, companies, and organizations that show exemplary achievement and leadership in promoting energy efficiency, renewable energy or alternative clean transportation in Rhode Island," said Marion Gold, Commissioner of Energy Resources. "I am happy to recognize this talented group of awardees that have demonstrated innovation in the clean energy sector. These winners have gone above and beyond in helping energy customers reduce costs, improve the comfort of their home or business, and protect the environment."
