Secretary Gorbea announces six candidates qualify to run for vacant House District 33 seat

Secretary of State Nellie M. Gorbea announced today that six candidates who filed to run for the House District 33 seat have officially qualified to appear on the ballot.

State law required candidates to submit nomination papers including the signatures of at least fifty voters from House District 33 earlier this week. The Rhode Island Department of State certified the results this afternoon after receiving the nomination papers from the South Kingstown and Narragansett boards of canvassers.

The candidates are: C. Elizabeth Candas, Independent; Susan Cicilline-Buonanno, Endorsed Democrat; Jason Colonies, Democrat; Carol McEntee, Democrat; James L. McKnight, Jr., Independent; and Robert A. Trager, Republican.

Democrats Cicilline-Buonnano, Colonies and McEntee will face each other in a Democratic Primary scheduled for Tuesday, May 5. The winner of that Primary Election will face Candas, McKnight and Trager in the Special Election to be held on Tuesday, June 9.

House District 33 encompasses parts of South Kingstown and Narragansett.
