Travel Advisory: Improvements Slated for Park and Ride Lots this Spring, Summer

In an effort to better serve commuters across the state, the Rhode Island Department of Transportation (RIDOT) and the Rhode Island Public Transit Authority (RIPTA) announced today that construction has begun to rehabilitate 11 Park & Ride lots throughout Rhode Island.

Through a $906,331 contract with Narragansett Improvement Co., new features such as enhanced pavement markings, upgraded signage, and new ADA ramps will be installed. Rhode Island has one of the fastest-growing demands for public transit in the country, and this project will help make the lots more accessible to those who depend on them every day.

Traffic impacts will be minimal; however, some temporary parking restrictions at the lots may be necessary while work is underway. Construction activities will be limited to overnight hours, where possible, and there will be no changes to the buses that serve the lots.

Work will take place, according to the following schedule; the work at each location is expected to take approximately two weeks.

April -Barrington (Route 114 at County Road); Tiverton (Fish Road and Route 24)

May -West Greenwich (Hopkins Hill Road and I-95 at Exit 6A); Hopkinton (Route 3 and I-95 at Exit 1)

June -Richmond (Route 138 and I-95 at Exit 3); West Greenwich (New London Turnpike and I-95 at Exit 7) ? July - Warwick (Route 117 and I-95 at Exit 10); Warren (Franklin Street)

August - North Kingstown (Routes 138 and 1A); Pawtucket (Pine Street at I-95); Pawtucket (George Street at I-95)

Work is weather-dependent and subject to change. For the latest updates throughout the spring and summer, follow RIDOT and RIPTA on Facebook and Twitter.
