Four candidates seek to fill vacancy on the North Smithfield Town Council

A total of four candidates have filed the required declaration of candidacy form with the North Smithfield board of canvassers as a first step towards appearing on the ballot in the Special Election for Town Council. The deadline for filing a declaration of candidacy form was this past Friday, April 24, at 4pm.

Those candidates are: Daniel J. O'Brien, Joseph H. O'Donnell, Anthony L. Soly and Linda B. Thibault.

In order to appear on the ballot for the Special Election, these candidates must: pick up nomination papers from the North Smithfield board of canvassers beginning on Tuesday, April 28, obtain valid signatures from fifty eligible voters on their nomination papers, and return them on or before Tuesday, May 5, at 4pm. Anyone who is currently registered to vote in North Smithfield may sign nomination papers, regardless of political party affiliation.

If more than two candidates obtain the requisite 50 signatures, there will be a primary on June 2. If less than three candidates obtain 50 valid signatures, there will be no primary. The Special Election will take place on July 7.
