More than two thousand new businesses have registered with the Department of State since January 1

Secretary of State Gorbea releases 2015 first quarter data for new business creation

The number of new business entities created in the first quarter of 2015 increased by 30% compared to the fourth quarter of 2014, according to data released today by the office of Secretary of State Nellie M. Gorbea. This number also represents a 4.4% increase over the same period in 2014.

From January 1, 2015, to March 31, 2015, 2,077 new business entities registered with the Department of State. This is an increase of 30% over the fourth quarter of 2014, when 1,591 registered. During the first quarter of 2014 a total of 1,989 new businesses registered.

"The number of new businesses registered in Rhode Island reflects growth in our economy and the promise of increased economic activity and job creation," Gorbea said. "Whether you are a one of these 2,077 new business entities or an established RI business, the Department of State's Business Services Division is here to help you grow and succeed."

The Rhode Island Department of State helps RI businesses grow and prosper by providing information that is efficient, strategic and relevant to their needs. It tracks quarterly business filings as most newly formed business entities in Rhode Island choose a corporate structure that requires registering with the department. More than 70,000 limited liability companies and for-profit and non-profit corporations are currently registered.
