Voluntary Recall of Canned Seafood Products

The Rhode Island Department of Health (RI DOH) advises consumers that Skipanon Brand Seafoods LLC and Garibaldi Cannery LLC are voluntarily recalling canned seafood products. Skipannon Brand Seafoods is recalling all lots and all sizes of all canned seafood products. Garibaldi Cannery is recalling all cans with any code starting with "OC". These products are being recalled due to a possible contamination with Clostridium botulinum, a bacterium that can cause life-threatening illness or death.

Products from both companies were sold to internet customers nationwide. There have been no reported cases of illness to date. Consumers who have any of the recalled products should not eat it. Botulism, a potentially fatal form of food poisoning, can cause general weakness, dizziness, double vision, and trouble with speaking or swallowing. Difficulty breathing, muscle weakness, abdominal distension, and constipation may also occur. Anyone who has these symptoms should seek medical attention right away.
