Providence Man Found Guilty of Child Molestation

Attorney General Peter F. Kilmartin announced that Markus Acevedo, age 22, with a last known address of 187 Lenox Avenue, Providence, was found guilty on Thursday by a Providence County Superior Court jury of two counts of first degree child molestation. The jury returned the verdict after deliberating for nine hours after a nine-day trial presided over by Superior Court Justice Daniel A. Procaccini.

During the course of the trial, the State proved that Acevedo molested a nine-year-old girl in April of 2011. The victim reported the molestation to her therapist, who in turn notified the girl's mother, who then brought the child to Hasbro Children's Hospital for examination.

Cranston Detective Jean-Paul Slaughter led the investigation. Special Assistant Attorney General and Chief of the Child Abuse Unit Shannon Signore prosecuted the case on behalf of the Office of the Attorney General.

Sentencing is scheduled for February 16, 2016.
