State Arts Council Announces New Exhibit at Block Island Airport

The Rhode Island State Council on the Arts (RISCA) announced today that a new art exhibition of works by Richard Harrington is on exhibit from July 28 through September 27, 2016 at the Block Island Airport Gallery. The Block Island Airport Gallery presents the work of contemporary Rhode Island artists in quarterly exhibitions.

A native of Rhode Island, Richard Harrington is exhibiting a selection of his landscape monotypes as well as some of his abstract canvases which evolved from the earlier works. Harrington's landscape monotypes explore weather, mood, light, time of day, season and atmosphere. Through time, his paintings became increasingly abstract, yet still centered in the earlier concerns of mood, light and atmosphere.

Harrington earned a BS degree in Industrial Arts Education and an M.Ed in Special Education form Rhode Island College. He is an award winning artist and a juried member of several local and regional art organizations. A skilled teacher, he offers instruction and workshops in watercolor, acrylic and monotype painting. His work has received numerous awards and accolades over his career, and is represented by several galleries both locally and regionally.

Exhibitors for the Block Island Airport Gallery were selected by a panel of artists and community members. Panelists for the 2016 exhibition schedule were Lisa Starr, Ben Wohlberg and Carolina Arentsen.

The Block Island Airport Gallery, a partnership between the Rhode Island Council on the Arts and the Rhode Island Airport Corporation, promotes outstanding work by artists living and working in Rhode Island. The gallery will present art to an ever-changing audience of local, national and international travelers.
