Be prepared to be a voter September 13

PROVIDENCE, RI – Secretary of State Nellie M. Gorbea is reminding Rhode Island voters to be prepared for the state primaries scheduled for Tuesday, September 13. Voters should use the Department of State's Voter Information Center (VIC) at vote.ri.gov to find their polling place and preview their sample ballots.

Across the state, there are 63 primary races ranging from the state's two congressional seats to local offices such as school committee and town council. For the General Assembly, there are eight contested primaries for state Senate seats and 19 for the House. Some local races include nonpartisan races and voters are encouraged to familiarize themselves with their ballots before heading to the polls.

"Voting is your opportunity to help decide who represents you at all levels of government," Secretary Gorbea said. "I encourage all Rhode Island voters to go to vote.ri.gov and use the Voter Information Center to prepare themselves ahead of the primary elections."

Secretary Gorbea also reminds voters who are unable to vote at their polling place on Election Day to go to their local city or town hall through September 12 and vote using an emergency ballot.

There will be 411 polling places open throughout Rhode Island for the September 13 primaries and the VIC has interactive maps for voters to easily find their polling location. Voters without online access should contact their local board of canvassers, listed below.
