Interim Report of the Statewide Grand Jury (Reported January 30, 2017)

The Statewide Grand Jury reported out a secret and sealed indictment charging David Durrett, Thomas Rose, and Jared Jackson each with one count of second degree murder, one count of assault on a person over 60 years of age resulting in serious bodily injury, and one count of conspiracy to commit assault on a person over 60. The Grand Jury indicted Durrett on an additional count of larceny from a person.

It is alleged that on or about May 19, 2014, Durrett, Rose, and Jackson assaulted 68-year-old Milton Lyles, of Providence, resulting in his death on June 12, 2014. It is further alleged that Durrett stole a cellphone from Lyles after the assault. The incident took place on Broad Street in Providence.

After the Grand Jury returned the secret indictment, the indictment was sealed and warrants were issued for the three defendants. Durrett was arrested and arraigned in Providence County Superior Court on February 3, 2017. He was ordered held without bail. A bail hearing status conference is scheduled for March 2, 2017.

Jackson was arrested on February 7, 2017 and arraigned in Providence County Superior Court on February 8, 2017. He was ordered held without bail. A bail hearing is scheduled for February 22, 2017.

Rose was arrested on February 17, 2017 and arraigned in Providence County Superior Court on February 20, 2017. He was ordered held without bail. A bail hearing is scheduled on March 6, 2017.
