Community Meeting Set On Natural Resources And Visitors Center

Public invited to discuss plans, ask questions, share concerns with DEM at March 9th forum

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management (DEM) announced today that it will hold a community meeting on the planned Natural Resources & Visitors Center at Arcadia Management Area next week.

During the meeting, DEM will review its plans for the facility and provide an opportunity for members of the public to ask questions and share their concerns about the project.

WHAT: Community meeting on DEM's Natural Resources & Visitors Center

WHEN: Thursday, March 9, 2017 – 6:00 p.m.

WHERE: Richmond Elementary School Cafeteria, 190 Kingstown Road, Wyoming

The Natural Resources & Visitors Center will enhance recreational opportunities at Arcadia and has been carefully designed to complement its surrounding rural setting and provide a gateway to the 14,000-acre management area. The facility will serve as an important hub for information on the area's abundant recreational opportunities – from hunting and fishing to kayaking, hiking, and birdwatching. It will offer conference and classroom space, comfort facilities, and a natural history museum. As well, it will serve as an important hub for environmental research and coordinated activities across DEM's Fish & Wildlife and Forestry divisions.

DEM continues to promote and build on the outdoor recreational opportunities available throughout Rhode Island. Over the last year, as part of the Outdoor Recreational Council, DEM worked to advance an actionable vision for investing in our state's wealth of historic parks, beaches, management areas, and other recreational facilities. This project is in line with this broader effort.
