Attorney General Peter Kilmartin Extends Congratulations to Senate President Dominick Ruggerio and Senate Majority Leader Michael McCaffrey

Attorney General Peter F. Kilmartin today issued the following statement extending congratulations to newly-elected Senate President Dominick Ruggerio and Senate Majority Leader Michael McCaffrey.

"As the longest serving member of the State Senate, President Dominick Ruggerio has always been a leader on a vast array of issues that has positively impacted the State of Rhode Island, including measures to train our workforce for the jobs of today and the future, cut redundant and onerous regulations for our small businesses, and pave the way for development in our capital city.

"Senate President Ruggerio has also been a leader in protecting our youth, working with my office on legislation that would require child-proof packaging for e-cigs. And, we successfully increased the criminal penalties for those who abuse animals.

"As Chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, Majority Leader McCaffrey and I have worked together to strengthen the State's drunk driving laws, improve our open government laws, and ensure fairness in our criminal justice system while protecting public safety.

"Serving with both the President and the Majority Leader in the General Assembly and as Attorney General, I know their great love for this State, and have confidence they will continue to make the best interests of our citizens a top priority in moving our state forward.

"I extend my sincerest congratulation to both and look forward to working with them in their new positions."
