Raimondo Signs Automatic Voter Registration Legislation

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Governor Gina M. Raimondo, joined by Secretary of State Nellie M. Gorbea, U.S. Congressman David N. Cicilline, State Representative David A. Coughlin and State Senator Gayle L. Goldin, hosted a ceremonial bill signing of legislation making Rhode Island the ninth state in the nation to implement automatic voter registration.

"We must do everything we can to help Rhode Islanders participate in and engage with government at every level," Raimondo said. "That means bringing our voting infrastructure into the 21st century. I am thankful to Secretary Gorbea and General Assembly leaders for working so hard to get this legislation to the finish line, increasing access and opportunity for all."

The ceremony at the State House Library followed the passage of H5702 SUB A, sponsored by Representative Coughlin in the House. Senator Goldin sponsored the Senate version of the legislation.
