The Rhode Island Department of Transportation (RIDOT) announced today that it will be temporarily closing the weigh station located on I-95 South, between Exits 5 and 3 in Richmond. The weigh station is no longer used for truck weight enforcement, but is used as a truck rest area.
During this closure, trucks can use the Travel America Center off of Exit 5B (the interchange just before the weigh station). The Travel America Center has a full set of amenities including parking with a capacity for 180 trucks, food, lodging, gas, and a truck maintenance garage.
The weigh station will be used temporarily by Kapsch, the company contracted with RIDOT to design, build, operate and maintain Rhode Island's upcoming all-electronic truck tolling program. The company will establish a field office and testing location at that site.
