Traffic Advisory: Next Lane Closures Scheduled for Ramp From I-195 West to I-95 South

The Rhode Island Department of Transportation (RIDOT) is alerting motorists on I-195 West in Providence to the possibility of delays because of work to repair bumpy pavement on a portion of the highway leading to I-95 South.

Construction is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. on Sunday night, November 5. It will involve the closure of one lane of travel on the ramp through the evening and overnight hours, reopening to traffic by 5 a.m. on Monday, November 6. This work will level the roadway, but result in a rough, milled driving surface.

The next night, Monday, November 6 paving work is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. and last until 3 a.m. on Tuesday, November 7. The paving also requires the closure of one of the two lanes of travel on the ramp. This work is weather-dependent, and could be postponed due to rain.

The section of ramp being repaired is in a different location than where RIDOT repaired a depression in the roadway with a weekend-long lane closure last month. The second phase of that repair project will require another weekend lane closure. It is tentatively scheduled to take place from 7 p.m. on Friday, November 17 through 5 a.m. on Monday, November 20. Long delays should be expected from that work, and motorists should plan accordingly, either giving themselves extra time for travel or planning to take an alternate route.
