Statement from Governor Raimondo on Holocaust Remembrance Day

PROVIDENCE, RI- Governor Gina M. Raimondo released the following statement today in recognition of Holocaust Remembrance Day:

"Today on Yom HaShoah, we remember the six million Jews and millions of others who were brutally murdered during the Holocaust. We remember the families torn apart and ripped from their homes by the Nazis. And we remember the generations cut short, the men and women, boys and girls who never had a chance to grow old.

"Today we also honor the beacons of light that shone through in the darkest days of our history - the righteous individuals of all faiths who put their lives on the line so that others could be saved. We recommit ourselves to religious tolerance and freedom, values at the very heart of our identity as Rhode Islanders.

"It is not enough to just say 'never again' - we must also live by these words. When we teach our children about the Holocaust, we make sure that these unimaginable horrors are never forgotten and are never allowed to resurface. With the future in their hands, I know that a more just and more accepting world lies ahead."
