1,700 more Rhode Islanders find unclaimed property after Treasurer's Office announces latest round of YOUR MONEY checks are in the mail

PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- In the week Treasurer Magaziner's announced 8,000 Rhode Islanders will be automatically reunited with their missing money this week, more than 1,700 additional claims have submitted through the Treasurer's website findRImoney.com.

On Monday, Treasurer Magaziner announced that his program, YOUR MONEY, was reuniting 8,000 more Rhode Islanders with $1.3 million of their unclaimed property automatically.

Following the announcement, more than 15,000 Rhode Islanders began searching the program's online database at findRImoney.com and many of them found that the Treasurer's Office had missing money waiting for them. By week's end, more than 1,700 additional claims have been submitted for more than $960,000.

"My goal is to ensure that as many Rhode Islanders as possible get their missing money back in their pockets where it belongs," said Treasurer Magaziner. "My staff is working hard to return peoples' money to them as quickly as possible - too many Rhode Islanders are struggling to make ends meet, and I hope that a little extra cash makes a big difference for them."

To date, the Treasurer's Office has automatically processed claims for over 43,000 individuals through the YOUR MONEY program. While YOUR MONEY will automatically match thousands of Rhode Islanders, all residents are encouraged to visit findRImoney.com to see if the state is holding unclaimed property that it rightfully theirs.

Unclaimed property can include money left in old bank accounts and safe deposit boxes, uncashed paychecks, unused gift certificates, unreturned utility deposits, uncollected insurance payments and forgotten stocks and dividends. Rhode Island Treasury's Unclaimed Property Division is currently holding over $300 million of unclaimed property waiting to be returned to its rightful owner.
