Raimondo Directs the Department of Administration to Light State House Dome in Support of 'Good Night Lights'

Dome Will Flicker for 30 Seconds Every Wednesday

PROVIDENCE, RI - Governor Gina M. Raimondo today announced that she has directed the Department of Administration to participate in Rhode Island's Good Night Lights. Starting this evening, the State House dome will flash for 30 seconds every Wednesday at 8:30 p.m. Good Night Lights is a campaign to spread joy to sick children at Hasbro Children's Hospital, and has expanded to other states and hospitals in recent years.

"One of the things I love most about Rhode Island is our incredible sense of community, and Good Night Lights represents the best of who we are," said Governor Gina M. Raimondo. "Being able to give a sick child a few moments of joy is a wonderful gift. I hope the State House participating in 'Good Night Lights' will encourage others to get involved as well."

Good Night Lights was started by Steve Brosnihan, a cartoonist from Bristol who spent years volunteering with sick children by teaching them to draw. In 2010, he told a young patient at Hasbro Children's Hospital to look out the window for his blinking flashlight. Since then, Good Night Lights has grown exponentially. Some of the most striking building in Providence's skyline flicker in support of the campaign, and Rhode Islanders of all ages have gotten involved.

"Participation by the State House dome will add a major, exciting element to the Good Night Lights display on Wednesday nights. This majestic building will not only delight patients, families and staff at Hasbro Children's Hospital by flashing to life at 8:30, but will also represent the caring heart and determined hope of all Rhode Islanders for our hospitalized children. Sincere thanks to Governor Raimondo, Representative Susan Donovan, and all those involved in making this happen," said Steve Brosnihan, Conductor of Good Night Lights.
