Traffic Advisory: RIDOT Closing Lanes on I-95 North Tonight and Tomorrow Night for Survey Work

The Rhode Island Department of Transportation (RIDOT) will close lanes on I-95 North tonight, Wednesday, November 7 and tomorrow night, Thursday, November 8, for survey work for an area of settled pavement near the Park Avenue overpass in Cranston. The work will take place between Exit 15 (Jefferson Boulevard) and Exit 16 (Route 10/Elmwood Avenue).

The closures will allow the Department to study subsurface conditions that contributed to settled pavement, which RIDOT repaired this summer and regularly monitors.

Lanes will be closed gradually each evening as traffic levels drop. The maximum number of lanes closed will not occur until midnight, when traffic volumes are very low. At least one lane of travel will be open during overnight hours. Delays are likely.

The closure schedule for the next two nights is as follows:

Wednesday Night

  • 7 p.m. - Left lane closed
  • 8 p.m. - Center-left lane closed (two lanes closed)
  • Midnight - Center-right lane closed (three lanes closed)

Thursday Night

  • 7 p.m. - Right shoulder closed
  • 8 p.m. - Right lane closed
  • Midnight - Center-right lane closed (two lanes closed)

Next week nightly lane closures may be needed as this survey work continues. The schedule calls for no lane closures to begin until 10 p.m. on Monday night, November 12, and lane closures beginning at 7 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday nights.

On every evening when closures are needed, all lanes will be reopened by 5 a.m. the following morning.
