North Providence man sentenced to 10 years for kidnapping

Attorney General Peter F. Neronha announced that Louis Pompeii (age 44), of North Providence, pleaded nolo contendere on May 9, to one count of domestic kidnapping. Superior Court Magistrate John F. McBurney III sentenced Pompeii to 10 years with four and a half years to serve at the ACI and the balance suspended with probation.

Had the case proceeded to trial, the State was prepared to prove beyond a reasonable doubt that on the evening of October 20, 2017, an argument broke out between Pompeii and his then girlfriend at a residence on Pleasant View Drive in North Providence while they were having dinner. The victim attempted to leave the residence multiple times but was forcibly prevented by Pompeii, who also took the victim's phone. Eventually, the victim was able to escape and call police from a neighbor's phone.

The North Providence Police Department led the investigation and Special Assistant Attorney General Jonathan Burke prosecuted the case on behalf of the Office of the Attorney General.
