The Rhode Island Department of Transportation (RIDOT) today announced a series of temporary traffic pattern changes for three bridges in Warwick as RIDOT performs maintenance on the bridges to extend their service lives. The new traffic patterns are scheduled to go into effect the week of June 10 and remain in effect until the end of the year.
This $10.1 million Statewide Bridge Repairs Contract 4 project includes concrete repairs, bridge joint repairs and other activities on the structures. All bridges carry traffic over Amtrak's Northeast Corridor.
The traffic pattern changes are as follows:
Coronado Road Railroad Bridge
This bridge is located on Coronado Road, between Jefferson Boulevard and Post Road near T.F. Green Airport. The repair work requires the nightly closure of the road during evening and overnight hours, Sunday through Thursday nights from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. The bridge will be open to traffic during daytime hours and on weekends and holidays.
During the nightly closures, motorists will be directed to follow a detour by taking Post Road or Jefferson Boulevard to Route 37 and I-95. Traffic may use nearby Main Avenue to detour. Local traffic will be permitted on Post Road as far as Imera Avenue.
Motorists should plan additional travel time during the nights the bridge is closed. No lane restrictions are planned during daytime and weekend hours.
Collingwood Railroad Bridge
This bridge carries traffic on the Airport Connector between Jefferson Boulevard and Post Road. RIDOT will need to close one of the two travel lanes to provide a safe work zone for the repair work.
All on-ramps and exits for the Airport Connector will remain open.
Minor traffic delays can be expected.
Gorton Railroad Bridge
This bridge is located on the southbound lanes of the Post Road Extension, between Main Avenue and Apponaug Village. One of the two travel lanes will be closed for the duration of the project.
Few delays are expected.
A fourth bridge under this project, Lafayette Railroad Bridge (Route 4 over Amtrak near the Lafayette Road overpass in North Kingstown) will not be under construction until 2020.
