RIDOH Recommends Re-opening Five Beaches

The Rhode Island Department of Health (RIDOH) recommends re-opening Gooseberry Beach and Fort Adams Beach in Newport, Saunderstown Yacht Club, Beach Bonnet Shores Beach in Narragansett, and North Kingstown Town Beach for swimming because bacteria levels have returned to acceptable measures. Sandy Point Beach in Portsmouth, Third and Peabody's Beaches in Middletown, Camp Grosvenor in Saunderstown, Dunes Park Beach in Westerly, and Kent County YMCA Lower Pond in Warwick remain closed for swimming.

RIDOH will continue to monitor and review beach water quality regularly to ensure safe bathing throughout the summer season. The status of a beach may change as new data become available. The most up-to-date beach information is available through a recorded message on RIDOH's beaches telephone line (401-222-2751), or at www.health.ri.gov/data/beaches
