Traffic Advisory: One-Week Closure of Section of Pound Hill Road in North Smithfield Needed for Culvert Repair

The Rhode Island Department of Transportation (RIDOT) will close part of Pound Hill Road in North Smithfield from 7 a.m. Monday, September 9 to 7 p.m. Friday, September 13 to repair a deteriorated section of culvert. RIDOT will put in a new culvert section that will carry Cherry Brook under the road, just west of Gilfillan Road. About 3,000 vehicles use this part of the road daily.

During the closure, traffic will be detoured using Route 146 and Route 146A (Great Road). Access to homes on either side of the closed bridge will be maintained. Travelers can access the detour map at www.ridot.net/DetourMaps. The culvert repair will be complete in one week. RIDOT has informed local officials, including public safety and the school department, of the upcoming closure.

The culvert repair is part of a seven-bridge $7.1 million bridge preservation and rehabilitation project with six structures in North Smithfield and one in Providence. The entire project concludes in Spring 2020.

All construction projects are subject to changes in schedule and scope depending on needs, circumstances, findings, and weather.

The Bridge Group 13A - Route 146 Bridges Contract 1 project was made possible by RhodeWorks, RIDOT's ongoing commitment to repair structurally deficient bridges and bring Rhode Island's transportation infrastructure into a state of good repair, promote economic development, and create jobs.
