Woonsocket man pleads to first-degree child molestation charge

Attorney General Peter F. Neronha announced that George Dugas (age 55), of Woonsocket pleaded nolo contendere in Providence County Superior Court on October 1, 2019 to one count of first-degree child molestation. Dugas is scheduled to be sentenced on November 20, 2019 in Providence Superior Court.

Dugas is facing a maximum sentence of 25 years with nine years to serve at the Adult Correctional Institutions, and the balance suspended with probation. As part of any sentence, he is also facing mandatory sex-offender registration, counseling, and a no-contact order with his victim.

Dugas pleaded to one count of first-degree child molestation during trial. Had the case reached conclusion at trial, the State was prepared to prove beyond a reasonable doubt that between February 4, 2013 and February 3, 2014, Dugas molested a 13-year-old female victim, who was known to him, at an apartment on Bellevue Avenue in Woonsocket.

Detective Jamie Martin of the Woonsocket Police Department led the investigation into the case and Assistant Attorney General Shannon Signore prosecuted the case on behalf of the Office of the Attorney General.
