RIDOC Announces Launch of New Public Inmate Search Function

CRANSTON, R.I. – May 8, 2007 – The Rhode Island Department of Corrections, which recently launched its redesigned website, is pleased to announce a new feature of that site. The new system will allow the general public to search for incarcerated inmates on the RIDOC web page at www.doc.ri.gov. After agreeing to a disclaimer, visitors to the site can enter partial or complete information about an inmate and press the search button. The information displayed includes: Inmate ID, Last Name, First Name, Name Type (Real or Alias), Race, Sex, Age, Last Known City/Town, and Current Security. The inmate’s sentences and charges are also displayed.

“We are extremely pleased to be able to offer this service through our website,” notes Director A.T. Wall II. Many other DOCs around the country have such a service on their web pages, and we are very grateful to our hard working MIS Unit for its efforts in getting our inmate locator system up and running.”

The hope is that the inmate locator will be a convenient, user-friendly tool that will enable media, law enforcement officials, and friends and family members of inmates looking for basic information about an inmate to find that information quickly and easily, eliminating the need for a phone call.
