Lt. Gov. Roberts to Convene H1N1 Flu Meeting on State Emergency Preparedness

Emergency Management Advisory Council meeting to present update on H1N1 flu preparations and review statewide volunteer coordination during emergencies

PROVIDENCE— Lt. Gov. Elizabeth Roberts will convene the Emergency Management Advisory Council (EMAC), Tuesday, September 8th at 10:00 a.m. at the Department of Labor and Training in Cranston.

Roberts will bring together EMAC members to receive a briefing from Health Department Director Dr. David Gifford on the state’s plans and preparations for an outbreak of H1N1 flu (swine flu). Lt. Gov. Roberts and state emergency management officials will also discuss steps being taken to ensure that common operational procedures and open lines of communication take place in managing H1N1 flu in Rhode Island, particularly now that school is back in session.

Lt. Gov. Roberts and EMAC members will also discuss civilian volunteer mobilization during statewide emergencies and coordination between civilian corps and state emergency preparedness. Serve Rhode Island and Citizen Corps will update the council on current and proposed volunteer efforts.
